The iRobot Roomba 530 Robotic Vacuum Exceeds Expectations

If you're anything like me, you look at the technological advances around you and think - so what? As kids, we were led to believe that the future would be full of flying cars and teleporters. Robotic maids would cook and clean for us. Movies would be 3D holograms that we could walk around in. When you got hungry, you could take a "Turkey Dinner Pill" that would fill you up and give you all the nutrients you need. Did we get any of that? Don't be too quick to say no. The iRobot Roomba® 530 Vaccuum Cleaner Robot is here to sweep us into the future.

Measuring just 16-3/4 x 21 x 5 inches, this little white workhorse comes complete with its Self-Charging Home Base, 2 Virtual Walls (to restrict off-limit areas,) and an extra filter. If you are prone to allergies, the iRobot Roomba 530's filters are a godsend! Each comes with a rechargeable battery, a power supply (3 hour charge time) and even a brush cleaning tool so that you can pamper your new robotic lifesaver with an occasional cleaning.

If all that isn't enough, iRobot offers accessories (at an additional cost) that can keep yours in tip-top shape for years to come. From filter packs to brush replacements, even extra Home Bases and Virtual Walls, iRobot has all the extras you could ever need.

Why invest in this marvel of forward thinking? For starters, we all know that life seldom affords us the time we need to keep our homes as clean as we would like. Friends drop by for a visit and you end up embarrassed by the layer of pet hair coating your beautiful rug or the cheese puff crumbs under your husband's recliner. With iRobot's vacuuming marvel, the Roomba 530, you'll never have to bear such shame again. It's fine-filtration system traps dust, pollen, and other allergens inside the robot, reducing the chance of allergies affecting you or your guests.

The intuitive cleaning head automatically transitions between wood, tile, linoleum, carpets and rugs. Yes, rugs! The vacuum's improved anti-tangle technology ensures it won't get stuck on cords or the delicate fringe of your antique rug. If it begins to pick up a cord or carpet tassel, it will reverse the direction of its brushes to release the item. Better still, its bag-less dustbin makes the Roomba 530 easy to empty. Gone are the days of messing with nasty vacuum bags.

The iRobot Roomba 530 Vacuum Cleaning Robot is truly a piece of the future we can own in the here and now. With its edge-cleaning abilities, light-touch bumpers and robot intelligence, it will quickly become a welcome addition to your home. You might even name it, I call mine "Belvedere".

Irobot Roomba - Sci-Fi Or a Sign of Things to Come?

For those of you that have not heard of the Irobot Roomba, it is a robotic vacuum cleaner. It is a small round device that automatically goes around your home Vacuuming and cleaning as it goes. The robot can be programmed to carry out its operations on a timed schedule. So that your home can be vacuumed whilst you are at work.

I am an avid science fiction fan and an engineer by trade, so the theory of robotics has been a common dream in my life. So when my uncle showed me his Irobot Roomba I was sold. The fact that it beeps like R2D2 from star wars was a bonus. A few months I bought one as a present for my wife's birthday and we have been extremely happy since. Especially with two cats in the house the usual balls of cat hair on the floor are now gone with no effort.

This then had me thinking about all the science fiction movies, books and cartoons I had seen back in the 80's 90's and wondered how close we really are to some of the elements becoming true. The Irobot Roomba is the main robot of the Irobot corporation, but looking closely they are expanding into other areas with household chore robots.

Having taken the principle that anything that is a hardship or dangerous should be done by a robot. This comes from their military wing of robotic design, where bomb disposal robots are a big seller. They have employed this principle into the Irobot roomba but also the Scooba a floor washing robot. The Verra a swimming pool cleaning robot and finally the strange Looj a gutter cleaning robot.

It is not only the team at Irobot Roomba that are building robots to make our lives easier and freeing up time from daily chores. Lawnbot has launched a range of robotic lawn mowers, doing a similar job as the Irobot Roomba but for your lawn. It has also moved to the pet care sector with robotic feeders and litter tray cleaners.

So is this a sign of things to come? Irobot roomba reports that in 2008 they had sold more than 2.5 million units to homes around the world. The initial challenge for these robots to come into our homes is the price tag. Once the volume starts to move the price will drop and similar to all other technical gadgets. This is when we start to see them hit main market.

So is it Sci-Fi or thing to come, The easy answer is it is here and is going to become a major part of homes. As cell phones have mimicked the star trek communicator, Robotic vacuum cleaners are now becoming a common sight in homes. When you combine that with computers becoming more central to a home. There will quickly be a point when a home central server using a wifi signal can control and organise. All these separate robots. From a command from your mobile phone, you can arrange for the lawn to be mowed as you have unexpected guests coming for dinner.

Are You Ready For Best Robotic Vacuum Cleaners In Your Home?

Before we recommend some of the best robotic vacuum cleaners, let's first explore what they are all about. With a technology revolution sweeping the globe, robotic vacuum cleaners have become one of the most popular household gadgets today.

Ever since man invented the first machine, his aim was to minimize the use of physical labor to do any kind of chore. Nothing highlights this fact more than the concept of robotic vacuums, which are designed to reduce human intervention and increase efficiency at the same time. These electronic masterpieces can just be switched on and left alone to get the cleaning job done with no supervision whatsoever.

How do they work?

Innovative technology has been used to make robotic vacuum cleaners a practical reality. The high-tech navigation technology applied makes it possible for these devices to be moved from one room to another with ease. The system uses Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID), commonly found in tollbooths on highways.

Most robotic vacuums have rubber bumpers around them to protect them or anything they run into from any damage that might otherwise be sustained. However, the best robotic vacuum cleaners have infrared sensors that alert them to obstacles (such as people standing in the way) that automatically spur them to change direction.

These cleaning devices are equipped with features like self-adjusting cleaning heads. These sense the kind of surface that needs cleaning, and the robotic vacuum adjusts to the appropriate setting automatically. The best robotic vacuum cleaners will remove dirt and debris from carpets as well as hard floors and will easily get under beds and couches without human intervention. Many models come with a charging base and are programmed to return to it for recharge when the battery is exhausted.

Some of them are programmed to store and remember the paths they did not clean so that they can return and do the job later. Some have wheel sensors installed in them to ensure that they do not roll down stairs or off a ledge during the cleaning process.

Leading manufacturers

Many companies are vying to come up with the best robotic vacuum cleaners. Amongst the top players in the current field are Hitachi, United States' iRobot and Europe's Electrolux. All of them are developing Mark II products that would provide their customers with total freedom from household cleaning.

Robotic vacuum brands have been a topic of discussion amongst consumers and reviewers alike. These include Hoover, Infinuvo, Roomba, Robomaxx, Trilobite and FloorBot. Amongst these, iRobot's Roomba is a popular model. Its high price tag of $200 on average can be completely justified by the many advanced features offered and the convenience it offers by cleaning the floor of a space without your intervention.

With such a myriad of offerings to choose from, it's an easy decision to buy a robotic vacuum. You can leave it to perform its daily cleaning activities while you tend to other household work. Every day, robotic vacuum companies are coming up with more advanced versions of robotic machines. They are designing new models that require less effort to operate and accomplish more than their predecessors.

Why is the Roomba 560 So Popular These Days?

The technology we have these days is truly amazing when you think back to how far it has come in the last couple of decades. Who would've thought that we would have small robots that could vacuum our homes? Anyone who used to watch the animated TV show "The Jetsons" could've imagined it! However, these days there are several different models of robotic vacuum cleaners that do a great job. One very popular model is called the Roomba 560.

It seems like the company that manufactures these vacuum cleaners is constantly adding to their technology. This model has improved cleaning coverage, particle filtering and improved navigation. It picks up an enormous amount of dirt and debris using the touch of one button. It has spinning side brush that snatches dirt and dust from the corners and along the edges of your walls. It also has two high-speed rotating brushes that grab pet hair, food crumbs, cat litter and other types of debris.

Once the vacuum sucks up all of these pieces of debris, it sends them into a big, easy to empty bag less dustbin. This vacuum even traps pollen, dust and other known allergens in the unit. One of the cool features of the Roomba 560 is that the cleaning head adjusts automatically so that you can move between different types of flooring including carpeting, wood, tile and linoleum. It even has anti-tangle technology which keeps it from getting stuck on rug fringe and cords.

Another great feature of the Roomba 560 is that it has a self charging home base so you can dock and recharge it between cleanings. The battery is fast charging and comes with a three hour charger. You can cover about 3 to 4 rooms in a single charge. It also comes with other accessories such as two virtual walls which keep it from going into areas you don't want cleaned at the moment. This vacuum cleaner can help you keep your floors clean without having to give it much thought because you literally press a button and let it go so that you can do other things that are more important.

The iRobot 532 Vacuum Can Clean Your House Without You

Our house isn't huge, but when you're cleaning up after eight pets, it can seem like it is. So maybe it isn't surprising that when we "met" the iRobot 532 Vacuum, it was instant attraction. It wasn't just that it was cute, we found out that it could also vacuum a room (or three) without any help from us; it could even pick up all that pet hair!

The iRobot 532 Vacuum is a master of convenience and efficiency. You don't need to follow it around, pushing it backward and forward; you just have to tell it where you want it to clean and push a button. You "tell" it where to clean by programming its boundaries. It has two virtual walls built in and uses infrared beams to mark its boundaries. It can then clean up to three and a half rooms on one charge, all while avoiding those areas you want it to stay away from.

And it just doesn't roll around on its own: The iRobot Roomba Vacuum is out to do a job. It's equipped to pick up automatically all of the hair, dander, and kitty litter your pets leave behind. It stores what it picks up in its two interchangeable debris bins, and they will hold even more than a traditional vacuum, more than three times as much. Vacuuming could be one chore you can take "off your plate."

Is there a downside to the iRobot 532 Vacuum? Well, you do have to clean its brushes regularly, and the more it has to pick up, the more you'll have to clean them. Maintenance is important. If you're the kind of person who doesn't like this aspect, then you might want to consider another vacuum. As for me, this one little chore saves me from a much bigger one and makes the iRobot 532 perfect for me and my house.

Review Of IRobot Roomba Vacuum Cleaners

If you are thinking of getting one of these IRobot Roomba vacuum cleaners for mum or dad as a father's or mother's day gift, you may want to find out more before committing a few hundred dollars for these automated machines.

There are a few models in the IRobot Roomba series. They are iRobot Roomba 400 Vacuum Cleaning Robot, iRobot Roomba 410 Vacuum Cleaning Robot, iRobot Roomba 416 Vacuum Cleaning Robot, iRobot Roomba 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot, iRobot Roomba 530 Vacuum Cleaning Robot, are iRobot Roomba 560 Vacuum Cleaning Robot, iRobot Roomba 570 Vacuum Cleaning Robot. Yes, you are right, the bigger the model number, the more expensive the vacuum cleaning robot is.

I have the IRobot Roomba 580 vaccum cleaning robot, so I shall tell you what I think of this machine. First the features: It is able to cover 4 rooms on a single battery charge, a Wireless Command Center which is the same as a remote control, on-board scheduling,

self-charging home base, comes with 11 brushes and 7 filters. This is the latest generation of robots developed by the company which has improved performance and durability compared to its predecessors. The on-board scheduling feature allows you to preset up to seven cleaning times per week for the robot to clean your carpet whether you are at home or not. The Roomba is able to clean four rooms on a single charge, gets into difficult areas like wall edges and beneath furniture. The Roomba automatically adjusts from carpets to hard floors and back again. There is a Virtual Wall Lighthouse feature that confines Roomba to one room until the entire floor is vacuumed before moving on to the next room. Isn't that cool?

When its battery is running low, or when the carpet cleaning job is complete, Roomba automatically returns to the self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge. If you feel like 'playing' with the Roomba, you can control and steer Roomba remotely using the Wireless Command Center. The 580 model also has a silver faceplate so you can change Roomba's look to match your home decor.

So what's good about the IRobot Roomba 580 vacuum cleaner? It cleans effectively, cleans under furniture, is able to cover the whole room, pet friendly, hassle free operation, long battery life or should I say sufficient battery life for the entire house. For dog or cat owners, having the Roomba is bliss as it effectively takes in all the hair and fur. This vacuum cleaner robot does not get tired and it feeds itself when it is power hungry. I think the best use of the Roomba is for the handicapped or the elderly. Vacuuming the carpet or floor can be a tedious job especially when you are unable to stand for long.

The cons? It is a little noisy and it may sometimes get stuck and unable to maneuver itself out, especially at corners. It is unable to clean the stairs, so IRobot engineers need to develop some form of legs for this cleaner. It is also a little pricey but you can get a discounted one from carpet cleaning supplies store.

The Robot Vacuum Cleaner - Top 10 Reasons to own a Roomba Robotic Vacuum

The Roomba Robot vacuum by iRobot Corporation is an innovative unit that will vacuum clean your house. They released this consumer robot based on their expertise in military robots which you can see if you visit their website irobot.com. Although it is a complex unit under the hood it is simple to use; just put it in the center of the room and push a button and it will get to work.

When you think of robots probably the one that comes to mind are those car manufacturing types with high wires and pipes all over the place but the iRobot is a tiny 3"x14"unit with no external wires or pipes. For this reason it is perfectly safe around pets and children. The Roomba robotic vacuum is in more danger from the children! It also gently cleans carpets and will not damage walls or furniture as it has built bump in sensors that are made of soft rubber.

1. It does the vacuuming!

The Roomba is a self contained floor cleaner robot. Each Roomba vacuum has a built in computer giving it the ability to navigate any room and completely vacuum the floor.

2. It can clean the entire room without supervision.

The built in computer uses bump sensors to navigate it's way around a room (these are gentle enough not to damage any furniture). As well as this it uses a random direction algorithm that means the robot will not miss any areas of carpet ensuring a good clean.

3. It can clean under furniture (it's only 3inches high).

It's small enough to fit under furniture where you can not vacuum with a normal upright cleaner.

4. You can schedule cleaning at different times (up to seven programs).

If you use the 4230 Roomba Scheduler version it has a build in scheduler unit. With this you can program Roomba to clean the house whenever you want it to and because it has seven programs you can program it not to wake you up on Saturday or Sunday!

5. It cleans the floor at least four times.

The robot uses some simple algorithms to find it's way around rooms it also has a bit of randomness thrown in which is a good thing since it means that the robot can never get stuck covering the same area endlessly.

6. It can intelligently clean dirtier areas.

Built in noise sensors can detect when there is a lot of mess to clean up so the Roomba robotic vacuum will stop moving so far and concentrate on that dirtier area for a while.

7. It can clean right up to the edge at the wall automatically.

Although it is round it has an external brush that means it can clean right up to the wall edges and into corners.

8. It's much smaller than an upright vacuum so its easier to store.

Since it is only 3" by 14" it is smaller than any standard upright vacuum and you can store it out of sight by putting it's charging station in a convenient place.

9. You don't need to remember to re-charge it.

Using Infrared sensors it can find it's way back to the charging station all by itself so it will re-charge itself ready for the next vacuuming job.

10. It won't get stuck cleaning different floor types. Built in sensors in the Roomba detect the type of surface so it can self adjust for hard floor or carpets easily so it won't get stuck cleaning any of your rooms.

Buying a Vacuuming Robot - Take the Stress Out of Doing the Housework

Remember back when we were children and we imagined one day we would have a robot that would do whatever we wanted it to do. It would play with us, help us clean our room and maybe even cook dinner for the family occasionally. We even watched television shows that had robots in them and imagined a future where everything would be robot controlled. Heck, people even worried that their jobs would one day be taken over by robots. Thankfully, we are still a people-driven society and robots are not controlling the world yet. However many people do own a vacuuming robot.

These vacuuming robots have become very popular in recent years as more and more people have purchased a Roomba. This manufacturer has really expanded upon the idea with several different models in their series. These kind of robotic vacuum cleaners have started to free people up who would once spend the whole day trying to get their carpets vacuumed and floors cleaned. Now, with vacuuming robots, people are able to push the button and leave for hours on end while their vacuum cleaner takes care of the job.

Some of these vacuuming robots also come with virtual wall lighthouses which keep them from venturing into areas of the house that you're not ready to clean at that moment. It also keeps them from falling down the stairs. The vacuuming robot is really a very smart appliance that can take the responsibility of keeping your floors cleaned off of your shoulders.

Some of the higher end Roomba vacuum cleaners can actually be scheduled to do the cleaning automatically. For instance, the Roomba 610 can be set up to seven times per week to do the cleaning for you. This means that while you're at work, your floors are being cleaned without even having to push the button.

If you are thinking about purchasing a vacuuming robot, make sure to do some research online and compare prices. You can also read customer reviews to see which models other buyers like the best. You can read about the pros and cons of each individual model and decide which one is right for you.

Robot Vacuum Cleaners Or How R2-D2 Became iRobot Roomba

Time-starved gadget crazed home bodies have taken a new step towards the "Jetstones" cartoon version of house cleaning with a whole new generation of robot vacuums. Insert a couple of AA or D batteries. Select "go". The little round disc R2D2 like robot never complains. Instead, while you return to the sofa to continue watching a film or game, your robot vacuum "rolls up its microprocessor sleeves" and settles into the task of cleaning your rooms.

Where Robot Vacuums Come From - Star Wars Technology Origins. Robot vacuum cleaners like iRobot roomba didn't just walk onto the consumer market gadget stage without some lead-up technologies. No hard core gadgeteer will be surprised to learn that the modern era's first robot vacuum cleaners are modifications on a core technology of "artificially intelligent" mobile work machines utilized by NASA in extra-terrestrial exploration. Industrial production robots, fully programmable, handle welding, fitting, joinery and a wide range of process functions. Think also about robot pool vacuums, now becoming suburbia"s latest convenience craze. So, it"s no surprise that micro-processors should be re-directed from the PC world and manufacturing world into the home.

"A Small Step For Robots ... A Giant Leap For Ultra-Civilized Mankind". From sampling and collecting stones on Mars, robots morphed into programmable house cleaning tools that rival conventional vacuum cleaners for performance ... less the time savings of eliminating the human factor. "One small step for robots ... a great leap for mankind" might be the trade logo for the new generation of ultimate home-convenience devices.

How Effective Is Your Robot Vacuum? Robot vacuum technologists utilize their full programming kit bag of tricks to create a feature-rich cleaning tool. Getting started with a device like the Roomba? Easy stuff. For preparation, most robot vacuums only require that you remove loose large stuff from the floor or carpets ... like papers, cloth, cords or anything that might get sucked up and cause your robot vacuum "indigestion" ... just like an ordinary vacuum. Kitchen tile, hardwood floor, carpet, even concrete surfaces.

Hair, dirt, pet fur and dander, food ... any of the ordinary stuff that makes its way onto your floors can be handled by your robot vacuum.

Remote Sensors And Bump-Grind. Your robot vacuum literally bumps its way through your rooms ... sensing objects ... lightly tapping each object like the leg of a chair, then keeps spinning and moving.

With some robot vacuum cleaners, you can pre-set a "virtual" wall ... programming a stop-point into your robot so that he literally stops-on-a-dime. Simplicity is the key to using robot vacuum cleaners. Guesstimate your room's size ... then select small, medium or large on the control panel. Place your iRobot in the middle of the room and then walk away. The rest, as they say, is history.

Batteries And Re-Charging. Simplicity rules with robot cleaners like the roomba robot vacuum or other models. When your robot is not cleaning for you, he can rest his tiny 6-pound frame on a counter or elsewhere and receive a 11 to 15 hour meal of electrons from any household electrical outlet to re-charge to full room-cleaning capability.

Fully charged, a typical robot vacuum cleaner will last 1 hour or more.

Getting Un-Stuck. Like his human inventors, the best robot vacuums occasionally find themselves literally "stuck" ... an odd combination of object-space relationships where the bump-withdrawal fails to extract your robot ... or perhaps gorging on a large towel or a set of smelly socks forgotten under the chair ... Solution? Most robot vacuum models initially send off a "I'm stuck" higher pitched tone. If you don't hear his cry-for-help, your robot carries an on-board automatic shut-off feature. Situation handled without fuss or drama.

Handling Stairs. Vacuuming stairs in the best of conditions is a hassle! Onboard sensors communicate to your robot vacuum "stairs ... watch out ... stop ... do not proceed further! Result? The situation is "recognized". No damage occurs. But, you still have to sort out another way to do your stairs.

Convenience Tool For The Less Able. People injured or limited in any significant manner will reap huge benefits from the new age of robot vacuum cleaners. Light, smart, easy to program, the robots pose little physical risk and permit less able persons to keep their home clean, and ahead on their daily task responsibilities without needing others.

Bottom Line. Smart, programmable, good at eating dirt, easy to re-charge, able to clean virtually any floor surface, the new age generation of robot vacuums may be the smart and practical and cost-effective way to handle your housekeeping.

How Robotic Vacuum Cleaners Have Changed the Way We Clean Our Homes

These days, we seem to be leading busier lives than ever before. Parents are always running from place to place whether it's going to work or taking their kids here or there. This is why it is very important to make sure that the tools we use in our daily lives are making us more efficient and not costing us more time. For this reason, robotic vacuum cleaners have become extremely popular in recent years. The idea of being able to have your floors cleaned while you aren't even at home is a good one.

A robotic vacuum cleaner is simply what it sounds like. It is a vacuum cleaner that is run by a robot and does its job automatically without your interference. It runs around the house without you having to push it or pull it. You simply press a button and let it go.

There are a couple of different companies which manufacture robotic vacuum cleaners. Roomba is one of the major players in this market and it is made by a company called iRobot. The general consensus among consumers who own these kinds of appliances is that they help to free them up to do other housework or spend time with the family while the rugs and carpets get cleaned.

Another cool feature is that some companies have actually created vacuum cleaning robots which also will wash the floors. These work on hardwood, vinyl and tile. In fact, you can even use special cleaning solutions or just plain water. Again, these companies are on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to robotic vacuum cleaners.

If you are researching robotic vacuum cleaners, it is important to compare the models side-by-side so that you can make sure that you get the one with the right features for your needs. You can also compare the prices as well as looking for a sale or one with free shipping. The most important factor to look at are customer reviews to see what other buyers thought about their purchase once they were able to get it home and use it.

Robot Vacuum Cleaners - The Future Is Now

Many fans of science fiction can remember reading how we were all supposed to all be flying around on jet packs by the year 2001. Well we haven't quite achieved that - yet. But we're getting closer every day. One example is in the area of cleaning. The Roomba vacuum cleaner, which is made by iRobot, uses robot technology to clean your house. While it's not quite like "The Jetsons" it uses many of the same principles.

First of all, it cleans your house all by itself. It doesn't matter if its day or night. You can program it to run at anytime you want. Many people choose to have it run during the day, while they're at work. It's so nice to come home to a clean house after a long day at the office. Isn't it?

The IRobot uses sensors to navigate through the room. It's actually bumps around furniture and other objects while it cleans. Don't worry though; the bumping is light enough so it won't damage any important furniture pieces.

Some people question how effective it will be, thinking that a machine will never be able to do as good of a job as humans. While it's easy to understand these fears, they are purely unfounded. The Roomba is designed to clean all types of floors, including hard wood and carpets. The sensors will also identify extra dirty spots and continue to go over that area of the floor until it's clean.

The Roomba runs on a rechargeable battery. The robot will automatically return to its base when the task is completed, so after the initial set up there's nothing for you to do except change the bags. Since we all seem to live a hectic lifestyle, it's easy to see how this would be such an advantage. Who knows, maybe it will be the only vacuum cleaner you'll ever need.

Does the Roomba iRobot Vacuum Cleaner Really Work?

If you're thinking about picking up a Roomba iRobot vacuum cleaner then you need to read this article. We're going to look at whether or not it will do as good a job as a standard vacuum would.

The Roomba iRobot is a "robotic" vacuum cleaner that doesn't require you to do the actual work. It has an infrared sensor that will sense when it is about to run into something, like a wall or furniture, and it will change course automatically.

The idea behind these vacuums is that you can set them free in a room and they will gradually work their way around the entire space without you having to do anything.

So the question is, do they really work?

The answer isn't quite so simple, unfortunately. They do work as advertised - they will sense walls and furniture, adjusting course as they go to avoid hitting them. The way they are designed to adjust course will gradually cover the entire floor of a room.

There are a couple of drawbacks to them however. First, the infrared sensor works well for the most part, but on occasion they will miss something and get stuck, requiring you to reset them to get them moving again. This kind of defeats the purpose of a robotic vacuum.

The other, and probably more significant drawback is that the Roomba iRobot is not the most powerful vacuum. Because they are designed to be small and unobtrusive, they don't have a particularly powerful vacuum motor. They will do fine at picking up dust and small items, but large spills are beyond their abilities for the most part.

Plus, because they are quite small compared to most vacuums, you'll find that you need to empty the disposal compartment more often.

The other potential drawback to the iRobot is that they run on batteries. They have rechargeable batteries built in, so you aren't going to have to buy new ones all the time, but if you forget to plug it in to charge overnight you might find your vacuum out of commission for a few hours while it charges.

The Robot Vacuum

The other day I was driving along down a quaint country road near my home and noticed something out of the corner of my eye in the middle of a large yard on my right. I tried to turn and look as I passed, but only caught a glimpse of what looked like a small disc like machine. I went a little further down the road but my curiosity had gotten the better of me, I turned around to go have a look. It was in fact, a device, wandering around these people's yard. A small disk-like appliance called a robot vacuum. Now, I did not stop and ask the owner's just exactly what this thing was doing in the yard, but I would imagine they had it out to automatically clean the grass clippings from the mowing they had done, or perhaps the device was attempting to escape and bound for world domination. Completely baffled I was though until I arrived back home to go searching for the conclusion as to what the thing even was.

The robot vacuum came onto the market in 2002 from a company called iRobot, the Roomba Robot Vacuum Cleaner. The autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner, able to find its way around a room, avoiding obstacles, cleaning the floor, entirely on its own. Amazing!

This is achieved by carrying the device to the room you wish it to clean and simply pressing a few buttons. The power button, and then the clean button. Then, the Roomba begins, spiraling out in its own pattern calculating and cleaning as it goes. There are tons of sensors all over the underside of the unit. The self-navigation capabilities of the robot vacuum are not limited to just detecting an object and cleaning around it, but there are also cliff-sensors which will keep the unit safe from tumbling down stairs. The cliff-sensor achieves its purpose by emitting an infrared signal directly at the floor and the instant the signal is not immediately received, the unit changes direction accordingly. Most units also come with wall sensors which allow you to setup up virtual boundaries for areas you do not wish your little cleaning buddy to venture into. Some units also come with a docking station, making it possible to never even need to touch the unit at all, allowing it to leave its charging station on its own, do the cleaning and return. Its dust bin however, does need to be emptied, which is something to consider as far as size when deciding to purchase a robot vacuum.

There has since been many advancements in the Roomba line of Robot Vacuums which have improved the efficiency and accuracy of the vacuums. Many have been given increasingly larger dust bins to allow longer intervals between having to touch the unit at all. The price you will find, directly reflects a units performance. The higher the price you pay the better a job it will do. Not to say that the reasonably priced units do not do their jobs but rather, the top dollar vacuums do actually reflect the price difference in performance. The only downside to a robot vacuum is in the fact that they tend to cover an area a few times and take a bit longer then you would to clean a room. This is typically though, a learning process for the unit and not much of a concern for consumers, after all its off on its own doing the job.

Roomba Robot Vacuum Cleaners - A Revolution In Cleaning

The Roomba Robot vacuum is a revolution in vacuum cleaning. Made by the iRobot corporation, this little machine does much more then it's size would indicate. All you have to do it place it in the center of the room, press the "on" button, and watch it go.

The following are just a few of the advantages of owing a Roomba:

It does the work for you: This is self explanatory. Why would anybody want to work when a machine can do it for you?

No supervision required: There are built in sensors that will allow it to navigate around the room. It will travel in random directions until the carpet is clean.

Schedule cleanings: You can schedule it to run anytime you want, day or night. Many times people program it to run during the day while they are at work. It's such a nice feeling to come home after a long work day to a nice clean house!

Cleans under furniture: Since it's only 3 inches high, there's no problem with it reaching under most furniture. The same can't be said for most upright vacuum cleaners.

It cleans the floor 4 times: It may seem redundant, but it actually re-traces its steps. This way you'll be insured to have a clean carpet every time you use it.

It will snuff out the dirt: The sensors will locate and concentrate on the dirtier areas of the room.

Edging is easy: The Roomba has external brushes that will clean right up to the wall.

Size does matter: At 3" by 14" it's much smaller than most vacuums. Therefore storing it is a breeze.

RE-charging it is easy: After it's finished, it will automatically go back to its base for recharging. There's nothing to remember.

These are just a few advantages for owing a Roomba. But don't take our word for it. Try one for yourself. Who knows? Maybe you'll never vacuum another floor again!

Roomba Vacuum Cleaner Comparison

By popular opinion, the iRobot Roomba series of home robotic vacuum cleaners seems to be the best out there. There are several models to choose from ranging in brand-new price tags starting from approximately $200 to $600 - depending on the functionality and features that each model provides.

Although there are also other great home robotic cleaning products that iRobot offers, this article will only focus on the Roomba vacuum cleaner line. Since it can be a challenging decision of which model to choose and buy because of all the different options that you do have, this article hopes to help you in that decision process to decide which Roomba is best for you.

Roomba models are all very similar in many regards, but vary in the accessories that come with each model, and the extra features and advances in technology. When you do a Roomba vacuum cleaner comparison, one thing to know is that the newer Roomba models are called the Discovery Series - which is important point because iRobot makes all accessories for newer models compatible with each other, but they're only compatible among other Discovery Series robots. Which model you choose is more a matter of what kind of challenges you're going to put in front of the Roomba and how much ease you are hoping to achieve in your perpetual home vacuuming task.

We'll start with the basic model and work our way up to the top of the line. Each subsequent model includes at least what is provided in the previous lower model.

The Roomba 435 model is your basic robotic vacuum cleaner. It does the simple job of auto-pilot or non-manual vacuuming, but it requires much more manual intervention and daily maintenance than does the other models. Some challenges are:

? good only for 1 to 2 rooms

? pre-scheduling is not available

? automatic self-charging is not available

? anti-tangle & light-touch bumpers not available

? room-to-room navigation not available

? high-capacity bin not available

The Roomba 435 starts at around $200. However, it has been rated high by consumers for its price to functionality trade-off. It is still a good value for your money.

For approximately $80 more, you can elect to get the Roomba 510 which will include the anti-tangle functionality and light-touch bumpers, plus an optional high-capacity storage bin.

The next step up is the Roomba 530 for just $20 more which includes additional power for cleaning another room (up to 3), and the automatic self-charging feature - which is nice. This model is approximately $300.

The upgrade from the Roomba 530 is the Roomba 560 for another $50 which gives you additional power for cleaning an additional room (up to 4), and the cool scheduling feature. This model goes for around $350.

Within the Roomba brand is the "Pet Series", including models 532 & 562, which include special accessories and a high-capacity bin for dealing with animal hair and fur. They cost approximately $20 more each than the Roomba 530 & 560 models, respectively. Otherwise, they are the same as the regular models.

The smarter Roomba 570 has the room-to-room navigation feature included, which is also really nice. This model costs approximately $450.

The ultimate Roomba 610 Professional Series has three cleaning modes instead of two, the included high-capacity bin, and a full two year warranty. All other Roomba models have standard two cleaning modes and a standard one year warranty. This top-of-the-line model is approximately $600.

In summary, the newer models are more reliable, more powerful, and have more intelligent functionality built-in. They also have more standard parts and accessories. However, if your robotic cleaning needs are very basic, an older (and less expensive) model might be all you need. Do a Roomba vacuum cleaner comparison for yourself.

A Brief Overview of the Robot Hoover

Robot hoovers are exactly that - a robotic device that cleans your carpets and flooring for you. You just put the hoover down wherever needs cleaning, turn it on, and it will automatically clean the room. They are wireless devices and come with a recharging point which plugs into a standard mains power socket. Once they have finished hoovering they return to the charging point automatically and refill their battery, ensuring they are ready for their next use.

Robot hoovers vacuum to a high standard and have no problem at all with a typical house. However if a room is really dirty, with ground in soil for example, then you would probably need to vacuum this yourself. They can clean under most beds, tables & chairs, don't fall down stairs, and have no problem weaving in and out of tight places, very rarely getting stuck. It is recommended to pick up thinner cables like the ones mobile phone chargers have, but they can cross most other cables, rugs, dividers and so on with ease.

Second generation devices are now on the market, meaning custom programming, larger dustbags, more thorough cleaning close to walls & in the corners, a more powerful vacuum, and more reliability all round. They typically take 30 to 45 minutes to clean most rooms and recharge in as little as 3 hours. They should have the filter & dustbag cleaned every 3-5 uses. You can even program schedules so they clean whenever you want. If there are awkward places in your house for cleaning then you can program some models not to go into those areas.

How Can the Roomba Cut Your Household Workload by Half?

This article will give a brief overview on the various products available in the iRobot Roomba line.

The Roomba is a robotic vacuum cleaner manufactured by iRobot. It is designed to be used as an automated vacuum that can navigate rooms and sense obstacles. There are many different models to choose from, the most popular of which are the Roomba 560, Roomba 530, 110 dirtdog and the new 601 Professional series. The prices would depend on the types of features associated with each models.

There are a few outstanding features about the Roomba. For example, a key feature would be in its ability to detect dust and dirt, which prompts the Roomba to spend more time on that particular spot. Another great feature is that with certain models, it has the ability to return automatically back to the charging dock when its battery is starting to run low.

The Roomba is great for people who don't like to do house chores. It tirelessly vacuums away even while you are not around. It can be scheduled to do the work when it is more convenient for you. It picks up pet hair and dirt, as well as food bits and crumbs. There is a great range of extras that you can get for the Roomba, such as navigation lighthouses so that the Roomba will know how to get from room to room even if they are on the other side of the house.

The Roomba can navigate a room with ease, thanks to its inbuilt algorithms. It negotiates obstacles by using a bumper located at the front of the machine. It can even navigate to places that are hard to get to in conventional vacuum cleaners, such as underneath a sofa for example. On some models they can be configured using infrared sensors to make it navigate even better, especially in between rooms.

Recently iRobot has released a new line of Scooba robots. They are like the Roombas by they wash and scrub the floor instead of just vacuuming.

Irobot Roomba 532 - Let This Little Robot Do the Work for You!

Tired of vacuuming your carpets? Frustrated with trying to get your kids to vacuum on a regular basis? Fed up with trying to get the husband to vacuum around the house? Or are you tired of any of them not doing a good job? Well the Irobot Roomba 532 comes to the rescue!

What makes the Irobot Roomba 532 such a great little tool to have?

Well, it is pretty simple...it does the work for you! Yep, this little marvel of technology does all the work for you. All you do is set it up, tell it where to vacuum, and make sure it is charged up and you are ready to roll. Well the Roomba is ready to roll!

The Irobot Roomba 532 Pet Series vacuum cleaner is designed to clean up to three rooms at a time, has a large capacity bin that collects all the gunk from your carpets and floors, and comes with two "virtual" walls so it will not go into the rooms you do not want vacuumed on a particular day.

Get that pet hair out of your carpet!

Pet hair in your carpet is just a pain in the rear. Your kids play on the carpet and end up with all sorts of dog or cat hair on their bodies and on their clothes. It is sorta gross! Or the pet hair ends up on your family and friends shoes and clothes, which is not something you really want.

Also, pet hair in your carpet attracts other soil that attaches to the hair and now you have a lot more than just pet hair in your carpet. You can easily solve these problems by using the Roomba 532.

The Irobot Roomba 532 Pet Series vacuum cleaner is designed with pet hair in mind. As mentioned above, it has a large capacity sweeper bin for collecting up to three times more hair than the regular vacuum bin. This makes a huge difference in how much soil and hair the little robot gets out of your carpet.

If you are looking for a way to reduce the stress of household chores then maybe the Irobot 532 Pet Series vacuum cleaner is what you need. It is not a perfect machine. This model only cleans up to three rooms at a time and does not have some of the automatic programming functions other models of the Irobot have. But it is a great little machine and you will find yourself wanting to use it to just see it work!

It doesn't roll its eyes when you ask it to vacuum, doesn't make up all sorts of excuses why it can't work, and you don't need to feed it. Just keep it charged, tell it where to clean, and it does the work for you.

The Roomba 610 - Top of the Line in Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

Imagine this: You leave your home for the day and come back to spotless floors. Every crumb has been picked up in your kitchen and the carpets look like you could eat off of them. The funny thing is that no one was at home while the floors were being cleaned and you didn't hire someone to do it. So how did it get done? The Roomba 610 took care of the job for you!

You have probably heard of these nifty robotic vacuum cleaners before but wondered if they really work. Certainly, the technology has improved over the years and the Roomba 610 is the professional series of robotic vacuums. In fact, you can schedule up to 7 cleanings per week automatically! Imagine being able to schedule them while you are at work so that you come home to a clean floor.

Not only are you able to schedule your cleanings, but this professional grade vacuum cleaner comes with virtual wall lighthouses. These gizmos create invisible barriers to the keep the Roomba from being able to go into areas which are off-limits. This also means that it requires the Roomba to completely finish one room before it goes to the next one. This way you can ensure that your vacuum cleaner is not simply moving around the house in an unorganized fashion.

Another feature of the Roomba 610 is its two interchangeable cleaning bins. The debris bin is great for routine maintenance of the floors and cleaning deep down into the carpet and rug fibers. Then, there is a high-capacity sweeper bin which holds three times the debris. This vacuum also has three different cleaning modes which allow the vacuum robot to make a calculation on the room size so that it can maximize the coverage for each room. The max mode allows the Roomba 610 to clean very large areas while the spot mode allows it to clean an area up to 3 feet in diameter.

The Roomba 610 is a serious vacuum cleaner and is considered to be top-of-the-line in the Roomba series. It comes with an extra bristle brush, one extra rubber beater brush, two extra side brushes, two extra filters and two brush cleaning tools.

Robot Vacuum Cleaners - Eleven Reasons to Get One

This should really be titled "Why I Love my Robot Vacuum Cleaner." I've put together a list of reasons why you should get one. They're cool. They're robots, and they clean your house. What more can a person ask for?

1) The Roomba Really Cleans. This is something that an owner of a Roomba can see for themselves. When you empty the robot, all this dirt and dust and hair falls out. You may be saying: But that happens with my normal vacuum cleaner. Test it out. Vacuum your living room as thoroughly as you can manage, and then set the Roomba to vacuum it after you. It'll come back with more dirt than you would expect. I'm not sure exactly how the technology works, but iRobot has definitely figured out how to make a robot clean a floor.

2) Vacuum Daily! Something that was unthinkable before suddenly becomes a possibility. Vacuum Daily! Why not? I'm not exactly what you would call a neat freak, but we have hardwood floors. Vacuuming daily keeps our house free of the little gritty pieces of tracked in dirt that can be so annoying on hardwood floors. Of course, you will need to empty your robot vacuum when it gets full and clean the brushes here and there, but that's not a big deal. I would bet that if you suffer from allergies, using this strategy would be helpful, especially with pet dander.

3) Roombas Clean Under Furniture - It's way easier to clean under furniture and beds with a robot. You can't really get a normal vacuum cleaner under a bed, so you're stuck doing other things which are much less pleasant, like crawling around on the floor with a duster or broom, or moving the furniture. A Roomba can fit under chairs, dining room tables, desks, coffee tables, and other furniture. Dust bunnies will be a thing of the past.

4) Watch the robot vacuum work. I will be the first to admit that I still find the Roomba fascinating to watch. I have found myself following it around the house. It will bump into obstacles, disappear under furniture, zoom over to stairs and stop, and then pester your pets. Complicated furniture arrangements like dining room chairs become mini robot obstacle courses. Sometimes the vacuum cleaner will take a while to get away from them. I'll admit, it's not as dramatic as watching an episode of 24, but it's very amusing.

5) Roombas can be scheduled. Most of the iRobot line can do this today. We don't take advantage of this much, we admit. For us, it's easy enough to grab the robot and turn it on before we leave in the morning. Our house is small and the robot vacuum can clean a floor on one charge. We come home to find it on the automatic self-charger (at least most times). With the iRobot models that do this, you can schedule seven cleanings each week. If you have a large house, you should be able to come up with a system that doesn't make you have to work very hard to get the whole house clean. One problem with this strategy is that sometimes Roombas get stuck. Once we've had ours get wedged under a piece of furniture. Another time, it got stuck going over some cords. The iRobot Roombas have special technology to help keep them from getting stuck on cords and carpet fringes, so it isn't as much of a problem as you might expect. We were able to adjust our cables and furniture so that the Roomba wouldn't get stuck while vacuuming.

6) Roomba Remote Control. If you get tired of watching it zip around the room, you can get more amusement by using the remote control to drive your robot under all those obstacles. This isn't a totally superfluous option. If there's an especially dirty area of your floor, you can use the remote to make sure the area gets a thorough cleaning. The Roomba is going to clean the area anyway, but it's fun!

7) Got Pets? Get a Roomba. I love having pets, but I'm not so excited about cleaning up cat hair. If you've got pets then you know what I'm talking about. The hair gets tracked around and ends up in clumps. What's on your floor ends up on the furniture. So it's great to have a robot cleaning up all that hair. iRobot has a couple of Roombas that are specifically designed for pets. The current models are the 532 and 562 "Pet Series" vacuum cleaners.

8) It's a robot! Yes, it's a robot vacuum cleaner. That's really cool in and of itself. I may not be commuting to work in a hovercraft, but at least I have a robot that cleans my house. It's also something your friends will want to see.

9) Make Cool Roomba Videos. There is no shortage of cool videos of iRobot Roombas on YouTube. Click here to see a search on YouTube. You can join the pack and film your own masterpiece.

10) Get Your Mad Scientist On. iRobot has designed the Roomba and published information that makes it easy to be a hardware hacker and do your own diabolical robot experiments with it. Maybe you want to put a telepresence camera on it, or a nerf gun. iRobot has already put the hard work into building a dependable mobile platform. Now you can turn it into something cooler! See the iRobot Create for the Roomba educational system.

11) I added an extra reason. One thing that's cool about Roombas is that there is a community. Here's a cool site if you're looking for more information about Roomba vacuum cleaners. There are educational users, robot fans, and people who talk about what the best Roomba models are on forums. Dig in!

Alice Wang is a writer who is also an expert on kitchen gadgets. She also keeps fish in a pond in her back yard. She writes about gadgets mostly. A great example being robot vacuum cleaners. More to come!

Review of the Roomba iRobot Vacuum Cleaner

Vacuum cleaners have taken it to the next generation with the Roomba iRobot. The vacuum looks like it is something out of Star Trek and is in the shape of a disc. It is roughly less than 15 inches in diameter and only 3.5 inches high. The vacuum won't run into any walls due to its proprietary infrared sensors. If it does, he vacuum will not ruin your property thanks to rubber bumpers surrounding the unit. The Roomba iRobot has an infrared sensor in the middle which measures the distance between walls, stairway edges, furniture, or other obstructions.

The Roomba iRobot operates on battery power and does not require any electricity to use. Charging the vacuum over night will allow for seamless operation in the morning. The vacuums come with a base station. After cleaning is completed the vacuum will attempt to find the home base using the infrared sensors. Charging with the base station only takes three hours.

One of the most advanced features of the Roomba iRobot is the ability to set invisible walls which act as barriers. By placing sensors up, the vacuum cleaner will not cross the barrier. The invisible wall emits an invisible infrared beam which the vacuum will not cross. You can block portions of the house and allow the Roomba iRobot to find its way back to the charging station.

There are several aspects to consider when purchasing a robotic vacuum such as the Roomba iRobot. Every model differs in terms of features, but it is important to keep in mind the dust bin size, cleaning coverage, battery life, detection abilities, cleaning power, and routine maintenance.

Undoubtedly the Roomba iRobot is faced with competition from other manufacturers. The Infinuvo CleanMate will sweep and vacuum on your behalf. The robot will clean carpet, tile, hardwood - you name it. Like the Roomba, the CleanMate will get to all those places you can't reach. The CleanMate will clean and kill bacteria at the same time with its ultraviolet light. Unlike the Roomba's three hour battery life, the CleanMate will only last an hour on a single charge and takes significantly longer to do so than the Roomba.

Other robotic vacuums such as the P3 exist, however; they are not comparable to the Roomba iRobot. Even compared to an entry level Roomba, the P3 only can hold a 45 minute charge, does not have a base station, and cannot set cleaning patterns, nor can you set up barriers. The P3 is best for single rooms or small studios at best.

While robotic vacuum cleaners come in all shapes and sizes, finding the balance between performance and features is important. High end robotic vacuums will ensure your house remains spotless no matter what time of day it is. You never know when your mother-in-law will make a surprise visit!

Too Tired to Use Your Hands? Let a Robot Take Care of the Dirty Work!

Buying an iRobot Roomba vacuum does seem like shelling out a lot of money for a vacuum, but the handiness, cleverness and sheer amazing technology makes it worth it. Yes, it might be twice as expensive as other units, but regular cleaners do not clean by themselves. I have a home based business and regularly have clients over to my house. I need it spotless at very short notice. I can set the timer on the iRobot Roomba vacuum and have the living room cleaned before they arrive, whilst I am setting up documents.

? With anti-tangle technology, 1 year warranty, counter-rotating brushes and two speeds, the iRobot Roomba vacuum is by far the most sophisticated cleaner out there. It can change from thick carpet to linoleum to wood floors without needing to change anything. When the battery is low, the unit will automatically return to the charging facility until it is ready to go again.

? The on-board scheduling for this vacuum allows you to even set the timer for 5am, so you can wake up to a clean house. With clever sensors stopping it from falling down the stairs and soft touch bumpers, it does not mark your baseboards nor does it make much noise, which is very handy.

? Amazingly, even when your house looks clean, the iRobot Roomba vacuum still manages to pick up lots of dirt and dust. This means nasty pollen, allergens and dust are kept out of your home. As the unit comes with three extra filters you have a very long time before needing to buy anything extra for it.

? Occasionally, the iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner can struggle with some areas, but it's a small price to pay for never having to clean your whole house by hand again.
